Step-by-Step Process:
-
Selection of Coconuts:
Mature, high-quality coconuts are handpicked, dehusked, and broken to extract the white kernel. -
Sun Drying :
The coconut kernels (copra) may be sun-dried for a few days to remove excess moisture, depending on the desired oil texture. -
Grinding:
The dried coconut pieces are placed into a traditional wooden press (Marachekku) made of Vaagai (Indian wood), which helps retain the oil’s natural properties. -
Slow Cold Pressing:
A wooden pestle is rotated slowly (usually by a bull or motor at low RPM) to press the oil out of the coconut, without generating heat. This cold-pressing process ensures that the nutrients and aroma remain intact. -
Natural Filtration:
The extracted oil is left to rest, allowing impurities to settle at the bottom. It is then filtered without chemicals or additives. -
Storage:
The oil is stored in clean, food-grade containers, ready to be used for cooking, skin, hair care, or Ayurvedic purposes.
